Our journey as a brand started at the beginning of 2020. We had decided that our first products would be face masks because they encapsulate perfectly the idea of relaxing and doing something for yourself. This happened without knowing that a little while later another kind of mask would become such an important part of our everyday lives.
We thought that launching our 4 masks would help relieve a part of the negative aspect that masks gained because of the pandemic. During this time, caring for and protecting ourselves came to the spotlight. Skincare for us is one of the ways to take care of ourselves and believe that everything is going to be alright.
We have created a very specific narrative about what self-care is. Taking long baths, doing yoga, having a long skincare routine. And there’s nothing wrong with that. But if you’re doing something else, it doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. Self-care is not one thing, it can mean different things to different people. Self-care can be whatever you want it to be. It can be reading a book, going for a walk, meditating, talking to a friend or getting some sleep.
Self-care for us is applying a face mask and relaxing for 10 minutes. We are not saying that a skincare mask is a mandatory part of your skincare routine or that it will dramatically change your life, but it can make you feel a little better. And this is what we believe in, the impact that skincare can have on how you feel. Taking care of your skin, as little as it may sound, is a small token of self-love. And if our masks can offer you that then we’re happy.
At love & strife we understand that this is not accessible to everyone and it might be a luxury for some people or even that it is not or should not be everyone’s idea of self-care. This is why one of our goals that we will hopefully be able to realize soon, is to either donate our products or part of our profit to support self care for everyone.
